Food orgasm

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

A good friend from Brussels, was in town this weekend so we went out for dinner on Saturday. I took her to DUDU in Torstraße. It’s one of my favorite places: unpretentious atmosphere, simple and stylish design and most importantly food to die for – at very reasonable prices! I’m sure I could hear angels sing while eating the avocado tempura roll with salmon.

After DUDU we stopped by Lining. Been coming there since I moved to Berlin. Another “institution” where you always bump into the usual suspects. Was happily surprised to see Evan behind the booth. Hadn’t seen him in a looong time.

I once spoke with one of the Lining guys about how a place need a trademark…a USP. Something that makes people keep coming back once the novelty value has worn off. So I asked what Linings USP was. “hmm…loud music and strong drinks” was Ouni’s reply. Maybe not a unique USP but definately true!

Dudu

Nam, one of the owners from Dudu, had a halloween date later that night as you can tell. Tight!

Evan, fresh back from a stay in N.Y, was in control of half of the Lining USP – the loud music

Amano Berlin

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Hotel Amano in Rosenthalerstraße just opened about a month ago. Amano is Italian and means something like “they love”, I think? On Saturday, Sebastiano celebrated his birthday there with a friend and was good fun!!

About the venue: A classy yet cozy atmosphere – a “nifty hotel bar”. Haven’t seen the rooms but they look really neat judging from the website! The location is great for a central stay in Berlin Mitte!

Dinner, drinks and done

Still in Copenhagen, I went out with a good friend yesterday. Had dinner at Salon 39 in Frederiksberg which I can only recommend!

Very jovial and cushy atmosphere, tasty food (two words: Bistecca Fiorentina – an 800 g porterhouse steak for two that they carve at the table) and delicious cocktails. The two owners are working on a new place in Vesterbro (other neighbourhood) opening later this year.

Later we met with friends, stopped by Ritz and finished at Karrierebar. Enough nightlife. Tonight is movie night.

Restaurant hopping

Next to my marketing management studies I worked at Umami. That’s how I met bar manager Chris who’s now a good friend of mine – and the best mixologist I know. Love, love, LOVE his cocktails!!

Yesterday I dropped by Umami to say hi and it just so happens that one of my best friends, Simon, is the manager at Madklubben, a restaurant just across the street. Had to stop by there too of course.

Check out their websites and go have dinner if you’re in Cph. Both great places!

Forgot to bring camera so photos are from websites. Will post some after my next visit – going there again before I head home to Berlin.

Cantina

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

Btw on Saturday I was invited for dinner at the Bar Tausend restaurant. Cantina is the name of the place that opened in the backroom of the Bar this summer.

Unfortunately I’d forgotten my camera but maybe it’s better to have no physical evidence from that night? FUN!

As for Cantina: An alluring atmosphere with that type of lighting that makes you feel exclusive and relaxed at the same time or should I say: An intimate atmosphere of urban sophistication…though I think it sounds a bit “blah, blah”.

A modest selection on the menu but still something for everyone and at surprisingly fair prices. And it comes with a friendly – and of course stylish – service (pssst…maybe more stylish than competent but …).

I recommend it!

It does exist in Berlin

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Bar Tausend is one of the few places in Berlin where you will be denied access for wearing sneakers – unless they are the new ones from Mr. Wang, of course.

Beautiful place – amazing mirror ceiling – where people are actually dressed up. Music genre depends on the lineup but mostly disco classics and house tunes. Worth a visit!
Ring the doorbell at the big steel door on Schiffbauerdamm 11 and greet the doorman as if you go there every weekend (they can be a bit tough on tourists).

Entrance fee depends on line-up (5 – 10 €)
Open Wednesday – Saturday from 9 pm.

A friend of mine, Alex Lindblad from Backroom Entertainment is hosting a monthly night starting tomorrow, “RIEN NE VA PLUS!”. She’s playing back to back with my favorite Italian, Filippo “Naughty” Moscatello. Stop by for great disco and house classics!
