Shape shiny silver

Monday, October 25th, 2010

- gold as well. The charming face of Volksluxus actually hides a workshop. Every Tuesday and Wednesday 18:00 – 21:00 you can (learn how to) make your own jewellery under guidance of a pro silversmith.

€15 an hour. €10 if in a class of three. Melt and re-design jewellery you don’t use or buy materials there.

A new hobby to keep you busy in those long winter evenings…

Thanks to the people behind Pale Blue Door for a fantastic night last week! Was so impressed by the construction work! Everything was perfect. People even sung happy birthday! Yes, there was a small confusion.

I really struggled with the red light when taking photos. Which is why some of them are b/w. Have a look at the website to see Manuel Vazquez’ photos of the stunning piece of heaven.

+: Am now addicted to horseraddish creme fraiche.

The longest flyer ever

At least seen on my site. Presenting everything creative. Check out the FB page of this event taking place on Tuesday!

Looking for a playground?

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

If you have a little creative maker inside you longing to express himself but being repressed by the absence of confreres, the missing playground or the right opportunity, look into Open Design City.

It proclaims to be a space that encourages the sharing of tools, knowledge, ideas and skills and organised some activities, Create Berlin Factory at Tempelhof in the next couple of days.

To be honest I’m not convinced by the level/ the substance of the project but then again, I didn’t go yet and maybe it’s all about growing and developing anyway? Collab: Create Berlin and Betahaus

I recently discovered Berlin based photographer Oliver Rath. While I find the esthetics in some of his photos a bit too “German” I like the more twisted ones and his portraits.

Check website or FB Page for more work.

Baker girl is baking bread

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

Manno!! I still haven’t tested the Bread Exchange though I find it a super fine concept! Check the Facebook group link for more info!

- and stop by Malin’s (baker girl) website. I love the “A photo a day” diary thing!

Bread baking soundtrack.

PS. If somebody is close to my office, please bring me a ventilator, a blow up pool and a sect-aperol. I owe you!

Bordel abroad

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Friends stayed until 8:00 in the morning at the last BDA party. I don’t expect to stay that long on Thursday but since it’s close to where I life I could stroll by for an after work drink.

Just a side note to the photo used for this flyer. I find bodybuilding pretty bizarre but also kind of fascinating. To have the self discipline to sculpture your body in such an extreme way. Dedication!

Eugen Sandow, born Friedrich Wilhelm Müller, the father of bodybuilding (lived 1867 – 1925).

Jusup Wilkosz, German bodybuilder during the golden age of bodybuilding in the 70es and 80es. Even trained with Arnold! Am I the only one who thinks he and Giampi look alike?

Melody meets minimal and flowers grow on paper too

My friend Sanna just released her super groovy EP Flowerhead exclusively on vinyl (300 copies, hurry up!)

The supernatural illustration on the cover was made by German artist Olaf Hajek who is currently doing an exhibition at Johanssen Gallery here in Berlin.

Your checklist:
1. Listen to Flowerheads on Sanna’s myspace profile.
2. Stop by Johanssen Gallery before July 20th to see Olaf’s beautiful, imaginative and spiritual work.

It’s not prying.
More like an official sneak peak.

Freunde von Freunden is a brilliant website that brings you closer to the private lifes of people in Berlin through interviews and photos from their homes.

Check it out if you don’t know it already! It’s kind of like a local version of The Selby. Unfortunately the interviews are only in German but at least the photos are inter-linguistic.

(Is inter-linguistic a word or did I just make that up?)

Bringing breakdance into the arts

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

A friend of mine recently watched this sold out show at Neue Nationalgallerie.

The Berlin breakdancer group Flying Steps (they also run a label and a dance academy here in Berlin) performed to classical music as the Flying Bachs.

Check out this short documentary.

- and this is how they “normally” perform…

I think it’s time for tea

I just discovered the Berlin lingerie brand Dorotea Time and instantly loved the brand based on this playful photo shoot.

Dorothee Erle is the creative mind behind the colorful delicates – and the artist behind the imaginative backdrop on the photos. I just mailed her to find out where to see the whole collection.

The model is Miss Julietta La Doll, a Berlin based burlesque performer. She can actually be seen live tonight along with other burlesque performers at La Fete Fatale. I’m tempted. Imagine the photos one could take.
