On Friday we popped in at the TOY made ONE event at UNDPLUS on our way to the concert with Florence and the Machine at Astra. Amazing voice she has btw. That Florence Welch.

If you can’t make people talk about your collection, you can make them talk about your show. Like the strategy!
Use a couple of Body Builders instead of just regular models. Have a guy guy with a sack barrow drive them onto the catwalk. Let one carry a glass box with snails. Show a bit of skin. Spice it all up with tight techno.
It worked for Patrick Mohr when he presented his jeans collection at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week under the title “Are we shaved?”. Rumour has it he had some even freakier things in mind but Benz wouldn’t allow it.

Rocky the Mohawk. You know him? I recognised the album cover as I stumpled upon it when surfing around for design inspiration yesterday.
Below is a summary of his interesting story. I have my information from various sites so I can’t say if it’s all true.

Gerhard Bauer (Rocky) was born in Berlin on Nov. 26. 1926. An only child in a Potzdam soldier family living in red part of Berlin, Wedding. His father was a member of the NSDAP and was shot when the Russians entered Berlin in 1945.
After WW2 Rocky worked for the French. Espionage. He was disclosed and sent to prison at “Bautzen” in South East GDR where the conditions where so bad that ten inmates or more died every day. Rocky got his first tattoos during his eight years in prison.

After prison time Rocky moved to St Pauli, Hamburg and joined a biker gang. He met Udo Lindenberg, one of Germany’s biggest rock stars, who made him part of the Panikorchester, a Sideshow-like group of freaks, that appeared with him on stage from 1975 to 1984.
Rocky died on 04.01.1987. The photos inspire me. I don’t know about you.

This post has got nothing to do with Berlin, Copenhagen, restaurants, parties or me for that matter. I just discovered this blog yesterday and I wanted to share it with you.
Frank Warren started the Postsecret blog as an art project in 2004. He believed everybody carries a secret. Sharing this secret would put things in perspective since getting to know other people’s mistakes, desires, regrets, fears, joys will make it easier for you to come clear with yours.
The simple concept of the project was that completely anonymous people decorate a postcard and reveal a secret. No restrictions are made on the content of the secret; only that it must be completely truthful and must never have been spoken before.

Get more information from the interview with Frank Warren:
When I get back to Berlin I have to go visit Illustrative 09 before it ends on 1. November. It is an international forum for contemporary illustration and graphic arts.
Having worked as a project manager of graphic design processes I find the process of developing visual designs that express the identity of a firm really interesting. Of course graphic design/corporate design is a small a part of the event that besides an exhibition (that also displays illustration, comics, animation etc.) features conferences, a film programme etc.

You have to got see this! As a part of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall puppet GIANTS (up to 15 m high!!) will “invade” the city!
A puppet theater will take place throughout the streets of Berlin over the next four days. Starting today! The story line is that one puppet, The Little Giantess is looking for her long lost uncle. She will wander the streets in Berlin, looking for him. On Saturday he will rise out of the water at Humboldthafen and they will eventually be reunited. I have to go see this!
The event is part of the Berliner Festspiele. Read more here

It’s Monday. It’s grey, it’s cold. Autumn is coming. Not too happy about it! Dreaming about warmer places. Like Cape Town. I went there in February to visit a friend and LOVED it! Hope to go again next year.
My friend Pierre is a jewellery designer/engraver. Makes great designs that will hopefully be available in Europe next year. Working on it. I’m a big fan of his clean style. Here are some of the pieces he has made. Should you be in Cape Town, stop by his work shop on Long Street

No plans tonight? There is the Art Berlin Contemporary (ABC) opening party in Haus am Köllnischen Park (map). Starts at 22.00.
For those more traditional ones of you there is the usual Tuesday action at Cookies. Though a bit unusual tonight…it’s Highgrade Label Night. Don’t think I’ve ever bumped into Tom (Clark) at Cookies before? Sure he can shake things up!
My plans? Going to Liquidrom with a friend. To chiiiill and recharge batteries after the weekend.
Enjoy your Tuesday!
