Megacities….yea or nay?

Saturday, September 3rd, 2011

If I were in Berlin during the upcoming internationales literaturfestival berlin (September 7th–17th) I would go listen to award winning author (and critic of the Chinese government) Liao Yiwu and Omar Akbar (former director of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation) discuss the development of Chinese mega cities and urban atmospheres (on September 8th).

Topic: World of cities – Cities of the world. Urban realities

Here’s a short blog entry on Chinese megacity Chong Qing by Damian Carrington for The Guardian. A metropolis planned to take up a 16,000 sq mile urban area (geographically 26 times larger than Greater London) with a population of 42 million people(!). Scary!!

You have to love the universe of Blade Runner. The set, the colors, Sean Young…

Fire the starting gun!

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

I probably have a romantic, old school idea of what a horse race is like. You know like The Kentucky Derby in the year 1973 (pronounced with thick Illinois accent).

The Westminster Price in Hoppegarten just outside Berlin probably won’t live up to that image but I still imagine a special atmosphere on the day of the German Unity.

Sunday, October 3rd! Ladies, don’t forget the hat!!

Neo Rauch and Vodka

Monday, September 27th, 2010

The Leipzig born artist Neo Rauch will be in Berlin to present Taschen’s limited Collector’s Edition featuring his work.

Thanks to the people behind Pale Blue Door for a fantastic night last week! Was so impressed by the construction work! Everything was perfect. People even sung happy birthday! Yes, there was a small confusion.

I really struggled with the red light when taking photos. Which is why some of them are b/w. Have a look at the website to see Manuel Vazquez’ photos of the stunning piece of heaven.

+: Am now addicted to horseraddish creme fraiche.

It’s getting bigger, isn’t it?

Monday, July 12th, 2010

I made it to Bread and Butter for a few hours last Thursday. As with the last two times: Impressive what they are able to create! The fair just keeps growing.
