Some photos I’d forgotten from BREAD&BUTTER.

Chillin’ at the press lounge, hanging at the LOCK section and beautiful Kristina from Danish fashion brand Flying A

Nola’s cafe at the fair, loafers meet Louis and retro-radio

PUMA was there too…

On Monday at 19:00 film critic Bert Rebhandl talks to Phil Collins (the artist behind the indoor cinema) about his work, about the exhibition at Temporäre Kunsthalle and about the history of drive-in cinemas (in English).
After the talk DJ Barry Burns (Berlin/Glasgow) will play a theme he composed for the Auto-Kino! trailer followed by a set of “naive positivism” (which is apparently electro, italo and other danceable sounds) at Montags Bar.
Free admission!

Impressions from the Designerscouts event at .HBC during fashion week. Kudos for an event created only by passionate volunteers.

I’ve actually never been in a drive-in cinama but here’s a great (and different) opportunity for a debut. British artist Phil Collins transforms the Temporäre Kunsthalle into an indoor drive-in cinema!
Join the 24 h opening event on February 4th, 21:00 (without prior reservation) with 24 Hour Psycho by Douglas Gordon from 1993.
So hurry up and book a seat in one of second-hand cars installed in the space (admission free). General info with full programme soon to be found HERE.

I probably mentioned before, that I’m not much of a museum goer BUT maybe some of you readers are.
When I come to think of it, this is probably a good opportunity for me to overcome my phobias towards museums.
This Saturday is the 26. long night of the museums. Venues accross Berlin are open from 18:00 – 02:00, presenting special exhibitions, guided tours and various events.
More information HERE.

Proud to announce a little get together to mark the first release of the label SUOL (no, it’s not a misspelling) that belongs to my room mate + studio partner.
Lucas Carrieri Gallery in Torstraße 96 is where the magic happens. As in FRITZ KALKBRENNER, TRICKSKI, AXEL BARTSCH, ZANDER VT, NILS PENNER, CHOPSTICK & JOHNJON juggling the rare records, they don’t get to play in clubs.
Wednesday 27.01, 19:00. RVSP to info(a)suol.hk for guest list

Now down to 350 photos from Fashion Week and still sorting. Here are a few shots from the Bread & Butter opening party. LOVED the design: western meets 50es rockabilly meets German Beergarten. Perfectly close to being kitsch!
Remember there were some issues at last summer’s party at Columbiahalle (sound, staff etc) but they clearly had everything under control this time!
Fantastic costumes and in-between-show like a striptease and a woman doing tricks on a rope – is there a word for that?

Fine music by The Boss Hoss, camera case on my friend David who writes the DANDY DIARY blog and pretty ladies.

….more photos to come
Just went to Tempelhof to pick up my press card for BREAD & BUTTER. Good thinking if I may say – no queue at all. Check out how peaceful it all looks on the photos!

The Copenhagen Climate Conference and the (missing) outcome has been discussed a lot. Some have called it a fiasco but in the end it created a world wide awareness about climate and sustainability. Suddenly everybody had an oppinion and future approaches were discussed. Which I think is great!
Visual Voltage creates awareness too. The works presented at the exhibit in The Nordic Embassies in Berlin until January 24 enable visitors to explore various forms of electricity, and to experience and reflect on energy consumption.
The Interactive Institute and the Swedish Institute are the organisation behind the exhibit that presents a new view of energy from an art and design perspective.
Follow the Visual Voltage link to read more. Here are two works that are part of the exhibition.

The lamp reflects energy consumption in the home with its shape being responsive to the overall trend in consumption. With a decrease in household electrical use, the Flower Lamp slowly opens up and appears to ‘bloom’.

The Energy AWARE clock visualises the daily energy rhythms of the household. It is not a regular clock but shows electrical utilisation of its environment in real time. The clock stores the info for a couple of days so you can compare the development of energy consumption.
systM, located in Torstraße, describe themselves as a space in motion. The spectrum reaches urban art, graphic, interior and product design and every discipline defining spaces. The place is a gallery, a bar, and tonight a movie theatre.
On tonight’s programme is KWAIDAN. A 1964 Japanese Horror movie. A film with four distinct, separate stories.
1. “Black Hair”: A poor samurai who divorces his true love to marry for money, but finds the marriage disastrous and returns to his old wife, only to discover something eerie about her.
2. “The Woman in the Snow”: Stranded in a snowstorm, a woodcutter meets an icy spirit in the form of a woman spares his life on the condition that he never tell anyone about her. A decade later he forgets his promise.
3. “Hoichi the Earless”: Hoichi is a blind musician, living in a monastery who sings so well th
at a ghostly imperial court commands him to perform the epic ballad of their death battle for them. But the ghosts are draining away his life, and the monks set out to protect him by writing a holy mantra over his body to make him invisible to the ghosts. But they’ve forgotten something.
4. “In a Cup of Tea”: a writer tells the story of a man who keep seeing a mysterious face reflected in his cup of tea.
Movie starts at 21:00. Stay for a post-movie drink afterwards.
- sorry no subtitles but thought the pictures were so beautiful. I guess the movie is with German subtitles tonight?
