Lady Gaga go home!

“Style” – few people in today’s commercial music industry seem to know this word. I’m talking about “style” as in elegance, refinement, class…

Check out this old Boney M video. No special effects, no 10.000 outfit changes, no ridiculous choreography and I think it is SMOKING. And one of course Ma Baker being one of the funkiest tracks ever.

- and no, this post has no relation to Berlin but if you didn’t know Boney M was an invention by German producer and singer-songwriter Frank Farian (does the Milli Vanilli scandal ring a bell?)

Walzer for everybody

Monday, May 10th, 2010

At least for those going to the Sophie Hunger concert at Astra on May 27th. Tickets still available!

If you are not familiar with her voice yet, do visit her Myspace profile! Swizz sweetness.

She normally sings in English but this song is so süß – and I guess kind of sad – that you get a German Beispiel.

La la la-la-la-laaaa, La la la-la-la-laaaa

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

I’ve had this refrain on my mind since yesterday and it has been KILLING me that I couldn’t remember neither band nor song title.

- And how can you explain that refrain to anybody and get a serious answer? Especially when your singing skills could be better.

BUT I just remembered. THE OFFSPRING !! with SELF ESTEEM. Just had to share it!

Nineties nostalgia big time!! Now off to brunch. Enjoy your Sunday!

Papa Sven

For or against? I’m for!!! So I guess, I kind of have to go see him play. Thursday at Watergate.

More DJs should finish their sets with dancing topless on the speakers.

Ich brauche Tankestelle

Friday, April 16th, 2010

Met these two guys at the temporary sale in Oderbergerstraße. They were making their Malakoff Kowalski bags and told me the whole story behind them, which I don’t remember anymore but I’m sure the curious reader can find it on the website.

They’re also known as The Barotti and are doing a big show with a huge installation in Stadtbad Wedding on May 1st. Keep it in mind!

- having met the guys, I’m sure it will be pretty entertaining.

Tracey coming up

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

I LOVE Tracey Thorn. So great news: New album coming out in May!!

I know Ewan Pearson who’s been working with Tracey on the album and he promised me a listening session at the studio here in Berlin a looooong time ago.

Think it’s about time to stick to your promise, Mr. Pearson!

One of my favorite tracks from her last album Out of the Woods

Morning sex

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

What better way to wake up? Sex in tunes. That’s what this track is to me.

Just discovered it last night though it’s been out since some time last year. On Berlin label Get Physical.

Booka Shade for free

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Berlin based duo Booka Shade release their new album on April 26. I have their two other albums Movements and Sun and the Neon Light and most tracks from first album Memento so will probably add the fourth to my collection.

Been a fan of their recognisable sound since I (too) became aware of them through their 2005 hit Body Language (M.A.N.D.Y vs. Booka Shade).

You can get a pre-listen of the melodic tunes on their new album with Regenerate that you can download FOR FREE here.

Afrilounge’s remix of Body language…

Florence Welch, S’il vous plaît

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

A friend invited me to go see Florence and the Machine next Friday at Astra. MERCI !!

Tickets are still available!

Why kill Ziggy?

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

It was during Bowie’s time in Berlin that he declared to have killed his alter ego Ziggy. Imagine that Bowie moved here as a retreat from “snowy” L.A. Taking Iggy Pop with him. In the late 70es.

Thomas Jerome Seabrook’s book “A New Career In A New Town: Bowie in Berlin” covering that time of Bowie’s life comes well-recommended. Don’t know if any of you can pass on other tips?

Japanese designer Kansai Yamamoto is the master mind behind several of Ziggy’s tour outfits from the early seventies.
