Saturday, July 17th, 2010Espresso yourself!
Friday, July 16th, 2010Coffee and 35 degrees don’t go well together. Ice coffee and 35 degrees are a way better match!
I mentioned Bonanza Coffee Heroes and Pro Macchina as my favorite coffee places but Impala is an adequate alternative. They recently opened a third place at Senefelder Platz.
Trying the cream cheese brownie is a must!

Staying in the hood. Party in the Hof
Thursday, June 10th, 2010There is a lot going on this week because of DMY. Feeling a bit überfordert with the whole range of events. Think I’ll stop by the party in the yard of Bötzowbrauerei on Friday.
- also to say hi to the guys from Themroc who are cooking pasta in the yard together with Appartment.
Different acts and performances going on in the yard. Monica tells me last year was a blast!

Am I just a spoiled kid?
Monday, May 17th, 2010Photos from the weekly dinner at Appartment last Tuesday. We were too late for dinner but in time for a drink.
Howcome a longdrink at an “illegal” place costs €6? Have no idea how the place runs but to me it was more expensive than expected.
Funny thing, if it had been €5,50 I wouldn’t have thought about it. €0,50 difference. Ridiculous.
So to answer my own question: Yes, I am a spoiled non-native Berliner.

Not just that other place
Tuesday, April 27th, 2010I mentioned before that I have two favorite coffee places in Berlin but I’ve only come around to write about one of them, Pro macchina da caffé in Ackerstraße.
Bonanza Coffee Heroes is my Sunday place. I go there when I’m headed to Mauerpark but it’s always so crowded I don’t feel like taking photos. But I went yesterday with MM and discovered, Monday around 11:00 is pleasently quiet.
They also sell coffee beans and ground coffee. Have to test it one day. Then again, I doubt it will taste as good as it does when made by the masters.

Chestnuts avenue
Saturday, April 10th, 2010Sounds alot more fancy than the German Kastanien Allee. The street just around the corner from where I live. Very much a beaten track in Berlin but lovely none the less.
I pass by these different places on those rare occasions when I walk to my office. Starting where Oderberger Straße intersects.

Where a friend had a moustache tattooed on the side of his indexfinger. Can you picture what for?

Where Astrid and I buy South African white wine

Where I buy a coffee when I miss the tram. Not because it’s good but because I’m bored

Perfect place for a falafel meal in summer

After three years in Berlin I still haven’t made it inside this Imbiss. But heard food is great!

Find fun stuff at Uhranus (not stuff related to certain bodyparts)

Where my friends buy records

For a bit of shopping…
48 | DESIGNER SALE
Monday, April 5th, 2010Stopped by the temporary sale in Oderberger Straße 48 on Saturday. Sven, the guy behind it is the same who organises the Blind date Swingers Club parties I mentioned before.
The temporary store is open daily 11:00 – 20:00 until May 1st! Go check it out! Various artists are exhibiting their work as well during the next month. And while you’re in the street go to Bonanza coffee heroes in number 35 for excellent coffee and cake!

A weekend off
Friday, March 26th, 2010Is it just me or does the party guide here always look the same? You can more or less look at the tips from last week and off you go. A new venue opens next week though. So polish your dance shoes!
Or maybe I’m just not that motivated about writing today since it’s 20 degrees outside.
One tip for tonight: stop by Horst later where my friends Holger Zilske, Phonique and Dave Dk are playing!
Out into the sun now! Meeting a friend at 103. Kastanienallee institution.

Fat floating in your vains
Sunday, January 17th, 2010This place used to be an insider tip but since you have to make reservations to be sure to get a table these days, I guess the tip got around.
The BIRD. My English vocabulary is too poor to describe how amazing their burgers and fries taste. Let’s say Burger Heaven must be the Bird’s kitchen.
I have to add though: I remember the first time I finished my burger + fries there. I felt sick for two days. As if I’d had a drip of fat feeding into my vein. But it was worth it. Haven’t finished the whole plate since though. This place is NOT for amateurs!
“At least TRY eating the damn burger with your hands. All you uptight people with your forks and your knives are driving us crazy. And for God’s sake don’t order your meat well done.”

Vodka shots after dinner are mandatory. Good for digestion. We went for Peter’s birthday dinner btw.But you don’t need and excuse to go. Just hunger. Maybe a crave for fat.

I’m a sucker for weird tattoos. Will also see if I can get myself this Godzilla t-shirt. Donald, the waiter, said he bought it in Tiki Heart in Kreuzberg.

Just for the record…

COMPETITIIIOOONN !!
Wednesday, January 13th, 2010I’m ÜBER-proud to announce the first (but not the last!) competition on my blog !!
I had so much positive respons on the feather lashes (photo) I bought on Saturday at Jacks Beauty Department so I stopped by the store again today to take some photos for the blog.
It is a true mecca for those of us who feel an urge to *shine* now or then (guys or girls). Walking in, you kind of feel like a child who just walked into a candy store. You loose track of time. All reason is gone and your vocabulary has been reduced to “I want!!”‘.
I had a nice chat with Miriam Jacks (the owner) to learn some more about the concept: Unique products she discovered on her many trips around the world working as a makeup artist. No compromise on quality (or skin friendliness). Fair prices. And of course presented in a lush design.
Miriam (who is now my favorite makeup expert) sponsored three pairs of ravishing feather lashes and a special DUO Eyelash Adhesive glue (total value €45,00) that YOU have the chance to win!

NOTE: there is a sale in the store in Sredzkistraße right now with 20 – 50 % off!

COMPETITION
Go to the ONLINE STORE (link), find the PRICE on the “FLAMINGO GLITTER” (love the name!) and send the answer in an email to iwantit(at)uduak.org.
The competition ends on Sunday, January 17 at 8:00 pm – local time if there is any doubt. I will then draw lots and publish the winner on Monday.
If she (or he) lives in Berlin the price will hopefully arrive in time (may Deutsche Post be with us) for one – or three – of the many events for the Berlin Fashion Week. More on those later.
Good Luck !!

Where we go for lunch
Monday, November 23rd, 2009Vietnamese at its best! Quick, fresh and rich – a delight for your taste buds. Sian is located in Rykestraße close where I live so it’s my “that place just around the corner”.
I’m especially fond of the place in the summer time where you can sit outside surrounded by elements of an asian garden, lanterns and colored lights. Not that I don’t like the interior design. Very authentic with a calm atmosphere, even when busy.
Avoid peak hour but go for a late lunch around 14:30, an early dinner or a late meal after 21:30 (They’re open 12:00 – 24:00)
Btw they recently opened a new place in Rosenthalerstraße, Chen Che. Found pictures on the Marius Mondo Blog
