COMPETITIIIOOONN !!

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

I’m ÜBER-proud to announce the first (but not the last!) competition on my blog !!

I had so much positive respons on the feather lashes (photo) I bought on Saturday at Jacks Beauty Department so I stopped by the store again today to take some photos for the blog.

It is a true mecca for those of us who feel an urge to *shine* now or then (guys or girls). Walking in, you kind of feel like a child who just walked into a candy store. You loose track of time. All reason is gone and your vocabulary has been reduced to “I want!!”‘.

I had a nice chat with Miriam Jacks (the owner) to learn some more about the concept: Unique products she discovered on her many trips around the world working as a makeup artist. No compromise on quality (or skin friendliness). Fair prices. And of course presented in a lush design.

Miriam (who is now my favorite makeup expert) sponsored three pairs of ravishing feather lashes and a special DUO Eyelash Adhesive glue (total value €45,00) that YOU have the chance to win!

NOTE: there is a sale in the store in Sredzkistraße right now with 20 – 50 % off!

COMPETITION
Go to the ONLINE STORE (link), find the PRICE on the “FLAMINGO GLITTER” (love the name!) and send the answer in an email to iwantit(at)uduak.org.

The competition ends on Sunday, January 17 at 8:00 pm – local time if there is any doubt. I will then draw lots and publish the winner on Monday.

If she (or he) lives in Berlin the price will hopefully arrive in time (may Deutsche Post be with us) for one – or three – of the many events for the Berlin Fashion Week. More on those later.

Good Luck !!

Where we go for lunch

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Vietnamese at its best! Quick, fresh and rich – a delight for your taste buds. Sian is located in Rykestraße close where I live so it’s my “that place just around the corner”.

I’m especially fond of the place in the summer time where you can sit outside surrounded by elements of an asian garden, lanterns and colored lights. Not that I don’t like the interior design. Very authentic with a calm atmosphere, even when busy.

Avoid peak hour but go for a late lunch around 14:30, an early dinner or a late meal after 21:30 (They’re open 12:00 – 24:00)

Btw they recently opened a new place in Rosenthalerstraße, Chen Che. Found pictures on the Marius Mondo Blog

Suicide Sue

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

Wuhuu! I found a place that serves a well-brewed coffee and where they know how to make just the perfect foam! Okay, there are a couple of places in Prenzlauerberg (my hood). E.g the previously mentioned Meierei as well as Bonanza Coffee Heroes in Oderberger straße. But this is a new place and I’m a fan of change.

Suicide Sue in Dunckerstraße is the reason for my enthusiasm. They make a cortado just the way I like it and for a modest €1,70. Also try one of their delicious cookies, the breakfast selection or the South-German Weisswurst for lunch. With the friendly service and a great atmosphere there are no suicidal vibes at all!  Should have asked Franziska, the owner, how the name came around.

- and I’m a big fan of the interior design!

Friday touring

Met friends for dinner at Kimchi Princess yesterday. I’m a fan!! Great food (love it when you can order a number of dishes and share…taste as many different things as possible), super service and lovely atmosphere.

After dinner we went to a nearby party. A semi private thing. Two people have invited friends (and friends of friends) to their flat every Thursday and Sunday throughout the summer. A roof top place with a real garden!! ….grass, bushes and everything. Very nice!! Yesterday was closing party.

Ended the night at a bday party in the Königstadtbrauerei in Saarbrücker Straße. New venue and wanted to check it out. It’s two floors down which creeps me out a bit (being under ground) but cool venue!

Feeling a bit weak today – had to get up early for a telephone meeting. Now off to see giants and dinner plans later. Pfff!
- Btw sorry for the picture quality. Just got the camera yesterday…figuring out settings

Private dinner

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Tonight is the “Dinner for Friends”. It is a monthly, private dinner, where two people cook at their own place – sometimes with guest chefs – and a dj spins records. It’s a word of mouth thing so you get invited if you know somebody who knows somebody (who knows somebody who knows somebody).

A great way to meet new people and enjoy home cooked food. Tonight I’m going to a private bday party in Rodeo though but I wanted to share the concept with you. Encourage people to do the same! I don’t know about you but I’m more in a “private party mood” these days than a “let’s go rave in a club mood”.

Sunday in Berlin

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

What I love about Berlin is the many options (read temptations) you have even on a Sunday. For example, if I feel like clubbing a friend is playing the afterhour at Dice this afternoon. Or I could go all the way to Rechenzentrum where other friends are playing at the closing weekend party and do a bit of Sunday rawe outside.
After too much redwine at Lebensmittel in Mitte yesterday (or was it the vodka/tonics at Lining?) I will take it slow though and meet friends at Mauerpark.

There is a fleemarket that has become HUGE over the last couple of years where you can go look for finds. I will be outside the fleemarket though, watching karaoke. Some guy (think he’s Canadian?) just set up a speaker system and a laptop on a Sunday this spring and meanwhile it’s grown to a 800-1000 people audience. Buy a beer from one the many vendors and enjoy the show! It can be REALLY entertaining like this guy here.

Berliner Kunstsalon

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

Before going to Liquidrom (which I highly recommend if you want to pamper yourself!) I made it to the Berliner Kunstsalon opening along with some friends. The old Humboldt Substation is an amazing venue! It’s only open to the public at special events.

Rumour has it that a Hollywood star lived there for three years. Nobody ever knew who it was only a black limo would pull up in front of the building now and then, picking somebody up or dropping somebody off. Do you have a tip?

Anyway, the exhibition was great! Sad I had to rush through it. Do go there if you have time! Find more information here

Die Meierei

Monday, September 21st, 2009

I’ve past it so many times but never been inside this new favorite café of mine. Until this weekend. Turns out a lot of friends go there too. It’s like an institution. You go there on your own and somebody you know is already there or shows up within 10 minutes. My new almost-home office though I probably wouldn’t get much work done.

I cured hangover with cappucino, “Rindfleischsuppe mit Knödel” and redwine…bit of an odd breakfast but helped! Also my feinschmecker-friend Markus recommends the “Hirsebrei” – will try it next time! Super-friendly people and a backyard perfect for chilling. Best thing: Tables are far enough away from eachother to give you privacy! Hate feeling herded like cattle when I’m in a cafe.
