Seeing this photo made me long for a real, Danish piece of smørrebrød. So off to the supermarket!
The New York Times suggests “Smur-er-brewth” as a way to pronounce Smørrebrød. Hmm. No. Follow this link to learn how to say it right.

Summer is around the corner = more bare skin.

Sort of. Use your imagination. The Botanic Garten in Berlin. Get out there. Smell those plants – actually it’s not just the smell I love it’s the unique – somewhat humid – green house air, too.
And I never thought I’d say this but they have quite an interesting program in May; Bonsai trees, creative writing, Berliner Kakteen Tage…maybe I should get out more?

I’m off to the beach in a couple of hours. Yes, the beach! That’s the advantage of having parents that live 3 km from the ocean instead of inland Berlin.
Wish I had a rubber duck like this…or I have to get a rubber duck like this. MM, it’s like the super size of our disco ones!

(and what category do you give a post like this?? I chose “wellness”)
Seriously, I won’t do it but I’m very close to complaining about how hot it is in Berlin these days. BUT luckily there are lots of Strandbäder where you can go cool down.
I have to go to Sommerbad Pankow. Yes! It’s all about the roller coaster! I still remember our 1995 family trip to Lignano Sabbiadoro including a day at the close by water park.
Check out all the Strandbäder here

I’m not really a big fan of indoor swimming pools but when the venue is as beautiful as Stadtbad Neukölln, it’s a different story. The venue opened again in March 2009 after 10 months of renovation.
Besides the two pools there is a herbal sauna, a steam bath, a Finnish sauna, sun showers and what have we not. Plus they offer massages.
There are several Bäder in Berlin that are worth a visit. More info here (German).

I have known about this place for ages but I still haven’t been there. Maybe the Holidays now are the perfect time to go? Charge batteries for New Years Eve?
Tropical Islands. A huge indoor tropical world with sandy beaches, warm water and a Tropical Rainforest and authentic tropic building structures. AND a Tropical Spa & Sauna complex.
Of course one would prefere the real thing. As with shopping malls I’m generally not a big fan of huge, artificial indoor man-made structures but judging from the photos this looks like it’s worth a visit. Just for the experience.
The possibly coolest thing: You can camp in the rainforest! So how I picture it: Gather a big group of friends, pack your beach equipment extravaganza and GO!
Tropical Islands is located approximately 60 km south of Berlin. Find more information on the website

Winter is upon us! Minus degrees, depressingly short days, over-consumption of kleenex and a general proclivity to stay home at night instead of venturing out in the blistering cold.
So here’s a tip to get warm throughout the next couple of months. SAUNA! There are countless around Berlin. Some mixed gender if you’re into expressing bodily freedom, some seperated gender and other just for women.
A friend recently went to a Hamam at the Schokofabrik (Chocolate Factory – makes it sound even more interesting!!) located here. This is a women only though.
For €12 you get 3 hours access and for an additional €2/30 minutes you can stay all day if you wish. For €20 my friend had a full body peeling as well. Amazing, she said. Here is some more information on saunas.
Already looking forward to next week’s pampering. Wonder if it will make me look as good as Kate Moss in this W Magazine Fashion Editorial shot in a Hamam?

My beloved hairdresser. He’s the secret behind my hair – that people often compliment me on. Been coming there for over two years and sent several friends to his place all ready.
It makes it even better to sit in surroundings like that! His salon in Almstadtstraße is so beautiful!
Now you know where to go for your next haircut!

I pampered myself with a facial treatment yesterday. Not something I do very often but I recently got to know Lillie Gitte (the owner of Dollface) and wanted to check out her salon.
Thumbs up for Dollface!! Tried a Perfect Face which is what I got – and still have. LOVE self-indulgence! They use great products like Nimue, Decléor and Organic Pharmacy and definately know what they’re doing. Prices are really fair too! Would recommend it any time! – and it’s not just for chicks!
Only bad thing: It makes you want to go every month which doesn’t really agree with my budget.
Important bonus info: They are amongst the very few salons in Copenhagen that offer a brazilian and rumour has it they do it really well! Dollface is located in Knabrostræde

Before going to Liquidrom (which I highly recommend if you want to pamper yourself!) I made it to the Berliner Kunstsalon opening along with some friends. The old Humboldt Substation is an amazing venue! It’s only open to the public at special events.
Rumour has it that a Hollywood star lived there for three years. Nobody ever knew who it was only a black limo would pull up in front of the building now and then, picking somebody up or dropping somebody off. Do you have a tip?
Anyway, the exhibition was great! Sad I had to rush through it. Do go there if you have time! Find more information here
